Service is provided according to the building’s heating specifications. Typically, a heat exchanger is installed to isolate the district & building systems. If district steam is provided to the building the customer can choose from steam, hot water or a combination of both.
Service is provided according to the building’s cooling specifications. Typically, a heat exchanger is installed to isolate the district & building systems. The district system will interface with the building control system allowing temperature adjustments.
Electricity is typically provided as part of a Combined Heat & Power system where heat from the electricity generation is captured to provide heating and/or cooling significantly improving efficiencies. The electricity can be used for plant equipment and campus buildings.
CenTrio entered into a long-term partnership with Syracuse University in 2020 to modernize, operate & maintain the campus-wide utility system providing heating, cooling, & power under a 40-year concession agreement. In addition to a large upfront system modernization project, CenTrio is also responsible for developing and funding future capital improvement projects throughout the term.
In 2022, CenTrio partnered with LSU to modernize, operate, & maintain the on-campus utility system in Baton Rouge under a 30-year concession, recruiting a diverse, inclusive & local team to achieve these goals. The Initial Modernization Plan provides significant upgrades to the existing utility system and mitigates operating risk over the life of the concession.
Since 2023, CenTrio has partnered with EMU on a 50-year agreement designed to transform campus energy reliability by modernizing and operating critical infrastructure. We also support EMU’s sustainability efforts by hiring an Ypsilanti-based Sustainability Manager who is dedicated to advancing sustainability education and optimizing campus resources.
